German language’s gonna die,
time is high to say goodbye.
In my hometown there’s no way
without English yet today.
German language’s almost dead,
so I better look ahead,
change my name to Mary Rose
like John Heartfield and George Grosz.
Well, the best thing you can do
is to learn some English, too.
Then we can communicate
easily in every state.

But languages and dialects have been changing since mankind has learned to articulate words and phrases und to develop grammar rules. The question is if in all cases it makes sense. If a body bag, which serves to protect a dead body during transportation, in "German" is changing to a bag tight to the waist in order to carry small personal things, there is something going wrong. Not to speak of "public viewing" or "standing ovations".
Nevertheless, a fine poem.

Hi Ilka,
you’re right. Languages have always changed. We can hardly understand texts in Old High German, and even words used in the popular songs of the Roaring Twenties seem kind of strange to us.
All languages are influenced by others, by people who come together and try to find a way to communicate.
Sometimes old languages become popular again, as it is in Catalonia, where many people speak Catalan instead of Castilian Spanish.
Concerning the German language we shouldn’t worry. People in China, for instant, are very interested in learning German, our difficult, but very fine language.
And when I read the texts of the many young poets, I know that the German speaking people love their language anyway.

Ja, mir ist auch die deutsche Sprache am liebsten, schon weil mir meine schöne Muttersprache sehr vertraut ist. Die Sprache ist meine Heimat. Ich nehme sie überall hin mit. :)

ich habe den blauen Langenscheid aus dem Schrank genommen und nach der Übersetzung festgestellt, -gut geschrieben- ;D gefällt mir.
Auch die Kommentare in so vielen unterschiedlichen Sprachen gefallen mir ::) habe alle übersetzt.
Ik bün ja nich neeisgierig, ick wullt nur geern weeten, wat dat all heet ???

If someone told me, I should guess,
if you speak English, I'd say: Yes!
To say, that I can understand
your words, but not your argument.
No "rulers" tell us how to be,
though we speak English easily.
Our German is too difficult
to teach it all over the world.
Well, this might be the simple truth,
why English is frequently used.

I like this thread!
Without creating a poem just now, I wouuld like to say that I like the English language in those two forms:
English English and Scottish English.
And I like the German language and also my Alemannic form of German - spoken in the Southern part of the former Grand Duchy of Baden.
And then again: I like anything that has got to do with languages.
In Alemannic now: "Ich ha alles gääärn, was mit Schbrooche z' du hedd!"
